Union Minister Smriti Irani was celebrating three years of Modi government when a man shouted 'Vande Mataram' and threw bangles at her in Gujarat. Irani alleged Congress' hands in the attacks.
The incident took place when Irani was addressing an anniversary function at Amreli town in Gujarat on Monday evening.
The man in his mid-20s identified as Ketan Kaswala was detained by the police.
The man who was sitting far from the bias suddenly got up and threw two or three bangles towards the stage and shouted 'Vande Mataram'. The bangles, however, did not reach the stage because of the distance after which the police quickly took him.
Police also said that Smriti Irani was requesting them to not take him away and allow to participate in the event.
She also asked policemen to let him throw the bangles which she would later gift to his wife.
She alleged that Congress has planned the attack and said their strategy to appoint a man for attacking a woman was wrong.
Meanwhile, Congress leaders claimed that the man throwing bangles was actually a farmer who was raising the demand for a complete farm loan waiver in the state through the action.
"As per my information, Kaswala is a farmer who wanted the government to announce a farm loan waiver. He expressed his anger as Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra, both BJP-ruled states, did that recently. But, the BJP government here is yet to announce a farm loan waiver," local Congress MLA Paresh Dhanani claimed
However, police denied the allegations and said the man was not associated with Congress or any other organisation.
